21 Oct 2009I am in charge of Student Affairs for a school, and I’m currently trying to put together a Senior trip to New York. There is soooo much to do there, that I need a little help in narrowing it down to some of the best things that don’t cost a lot. We’d also need to know some ideas for a nice hotel that doesn’t cost terribly much. A few things that you’d probably want to keep in mind are bellow:
–This is a Christian school, so please keep it in mind with all recommendations.
–The trip will last one week, but we’ll be driving there from Ohio (so a 5 day trip more or less).
–We’d like a nice mix of the regular tourist sights, as well as some things people may have never heard of but are still cool to do.
–If you have pricing/contact info I’d really appreciate it!
Thank you in advance for your help. It really is appreciated

Museum of Natural History near by is the Strawberry Fields memorial to John Lennon which is just a mosaic in the ground with a few park benches and some weird people who hang out there. You could then walk across Central Park past Bethesda fountain to the Metropolitan
Museum of Art both museums have a suggested donation, you can pay as little as a penny for admission,
Take a subway down to South Ferry and take a free ride on the Staten Island Ferry right past the Statue of Liberty. While you are in lower Manhattan you could walk around Battery Park, Wall St, and South St Seaport. Maybe head over to Chinatown for an inexpensive meal.
There are some incredible churches in town, I suggest checking out St John the Divine Cathedral around 110 st and Riverside Dr, St Patrick’s on 5th Ave and 50 St near Rockerfeller Center, Trinity Church downtown near Wall St.
Ask your fellow students what type of things they would like to do while visiting the city and then try to set up an itinerary.
MOST IMPORTANT is wear VERY VERY VERY COMFORTABLE SHOES!!!!!
Good Luck and Have Fun

Check out the City Reliquary Museum in Brooklyn. Take the L train from Union Square to the Lorimer stop in Brooklyn, and walk west on Metropolitan Ave. toward Havemeyer St.
It’s on the left near Vinny Vella’s Pizzeria.
